Gary Alan Day, resident of Williston and retired metal fabrication contractor departed this life Saturday afternoon, October 18, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for one day. He was 56 years of age and died following an illness of three weeks.
Graveside Services for Mr. Day were conducted at 2:30 P.M. Monday, October 21st with Bro. Gary Joyner of Moscow officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Day was born January 22, 1957 in Covington, Louisiana, the son of Rose Meyers Day and the late Charles Wesley Day. He moved at an early age with his family to Fayette County and received his education in the Fayette County Public School System. He was employed as a metal fabrication contractor for much of his life before his retirement for health reasons.
Mr. Day had been a resident of Fayette County since 1971 and was Baptist in faith. He was an avid collector of many items and enjoyed working with his hands. He will be remembered as a person who "never met a stranger" and for his love of the outdoors. He received much pleasure from his pet canine, "Pistol Pete".
Mr. Day is survived by his daughter, Katie Beibers (John) of Hornsby, TN; his mother, Rose Meyers Day of Williston; his sister, Denise Day of Williston; two brothers, Eddie Day (Peggy) of Senatobia, MS, John Day (Sue) of Laws Hill, MS; and three grandchildren, Lexi Beibers, Will Beibers and James Beibers.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Day.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Eddie Day, John Day, John Wesley Day, Darrell Kelley, Jason Walker and Mike Landry.
Honorary casketbearers included Willie Jeff Wiles and Roy Freeman.
