Gary Michael Perkins

Gary Michael Perkins, age 34, former resident of the Oakland Community, departed this life Wednesday morning, January 28, 2015 at his residence in Colchester Township, Illinois.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Perkins were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, February 1st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Personal remarks were given by Danny Hill. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery in the Macon Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Perkins was born May 21, 1980 in Memphis, the son of Phillip Daniel Perkins and the former Betty Carol Hill. He received his education in the Fayette County Private School System and was a graduate of Fayette Academy Class of 1998. He was a former resident of the Oakland Community and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed talking with others, watching movies, playing video games and his pet dogs, Emma and Molly. Special times with his friends was a favorite pastime.

Mr. Perkins is survived by his mother, Betty Carol Whitaker (Tom) of Oakland; his father, Dan Perkins (Cindy) of Bolivar; his sister, Penny Perkins Tapp (Bryant) of Somerville; his grandmother, Betty Ann Hill of Macon, TN; three stepsisters, Kelli Sisco (Brandon) of Pocahontas, AR, Jacinda Hargrove (Matt) of Oakland, Jessica Whitaker of Covington, TN; two stepbrothers, Andy Wilburn (Holly) of Fisherville, TN, Judd Whitaker of Gallaway; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ottis Hill, Phillip Perkins and Melba Perkins.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Frank McKnight, Brian Boren, Andy Wilburn, Kevin White, Greg Perkins and Cody Hart.

Honorary casketbearers were Michael Fowler, Judd Whitaker, Buck Culver, Justin Tucker, Eddie Tibbs and Eddie Niles.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
