Garner Elliot Houston, resident of the District 15 Community and associated with his family in the operation of the Garner Houston Well Company died at 1:21 A.M. Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where he was airlifted after becoming suddenly ill at his residence on Sunday. He was 31 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Funeral services for Mr. Houston were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, December 10th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Ken Burnette, Pastor of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Parks Chapel Cemetery of District 15. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes - West Chapel of Oakland.
A lifelong resident of Fayette County, Mr. Houston was born November 28, 1977 the son of Garner M. Houston and Deborah Sue Parks Houston. He was a Graduate of Fayette Academy in 1996 where he was a member of the outstanding Fayette Academy Football Team. He was married September 4, 1999 to the former Tammie Porter of Fayette County, who survives.
Mr. Houston was a member of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church and had been involved in the family well drilling operation since his early youth. He enjoyed sports, golfing and hunting and will be remembered as a person who truly loved his family and friends. He remained close to his Fayette Academy Football teammates who served as active and honorary casket bearers.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Houston is survived by his daughter, Camryn Sierra Tatum; his son, Rodney Dewayne Tatum; his parents, Garner and Sue Houston of the District 15 Community in Somerville; his sister, Zondra Houston of Somerville and his grandfather, Alfred Parks of Somerville.
Those honored to serve as active and honorary casketbearers were David Douglas, Matthew Armour, Lee Graves, Bo Rhea, Jim Fleming, Pete Hyman, Win Moore, Brent Pattat, Kevin Pirtle, Sid Wilson, Scott Rhea, Ronald Butler, Jason Teague and Brandon Karcher.
