Gene Talbot Dennie

October 17, 1949 — November 6, 2015

Gene Talbot Dennie, age 66, resident of the Oakland Community and husband of Kathryn "Kathy" Dennie, departed this life Friday morning, November 6, 2015 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Dennie were conducted at 10 A.M. Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Somerville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Dennie was born October 17, 1949 in Oakland. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1968 and was married September 12, 1969 to the former Kathryn “Kathy” Scudder. He served as a farmer for much of his life and was a member of the Chickasaw Electric Board and the Farm Service Agency. Mr. Dennie was a member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church where he was active in the choir. He enjoyed outdoor activities that included farming, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, trout fishing on the White River in Arkansas and dirt track racing.

Mr. Dennie leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 46 years, Kathy Scudder Dennie of Oakland; two daughters, Cheryl Feathers (Dan) of Oakland, Jacky Hatcher (Robert) of Oakland; his son, Benjamin Talbot Dennie (Jessica) of Oakland; his sister-in-law, Margaret Dennie of Corinth, MS; and six grandchildren, Victoria Cook, Gabrielle Cook, Cooper Dennie, Addison Hatcher, Lane Hatcher and Savannah Pearl Dennie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Talbot Nathan Dennie and Annie Pearl Rodgers Dennie and his brother, William “Bill” Dennie.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Billy Reeves, Chip Reeves, Joey Reeves, John Sullivan, Willie German and Charlie Springer.
