Gene Leo Jones, resident of the Oakland Community, retired cattleman and farmer and husband of Donna Boyd Jones departed this life Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2013 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville. He was 84 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.
Services for Mr. Jones were private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Jones was born May 25, 1928 in Hickman, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Boone Jones and Dellen Giles Jones. He received his education in the Kentucky Public School System and was married July 8, 1956 to the former Donna Claire Boyd, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Jones lived in Oxford, Mississippi for a number of years before moving to the Oakland Community nine years ago.
Before his retirement, he was involved with agriculture that included cattle and farming and in earlier years was employed by the Cargill Cargo Carriers, serving as a captain’s mate on their river towboat. Mr. Jones will be remembered for his work ethic, caring for his cattle, bailing hay and enjoying special times with his family and with his friends.
Mr. Jones is survives by his wife of 56 years, Donna Claire Boyd Jones of Oakland.
