GENEVA FORSYTHE YORK, a resident of the Collierville Community and wife of Junior York, died at 6:30 A.M. Sunday, October 12, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville. She was 77 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. York were conducted at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 15th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Bill Gifford officiating. Interment followed in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Germantown. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. York was born June 8, 1931 in Alcorn County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Leon Forsythe and the late Mae Stanley Forsythe. She was educated in the Alcorn County Public School System and was a Graduate of the Chalybeate High School and was married November 23, 1949 to Junior Nathaniel York, who survives.
Mrs. York was of the Baptist Faith and had been a resident of the Shelby and Fayette County areas for much of her life. She had been a resident of Collierville for thirteen years and was employed as a Day Care Attendant for the Happy Times Day Care Center before her retirement. Mrs. York enjoyed Tole painting and flower gardening with a special love for roses. She received much enjoyment from caring for children through her employment at the Day Care Center.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. York is survived by her son, Kenneth Lee York of Collierville; three grandchildren: Dakota Lee York, Michelle Hill and Nicole Hill and one great-grandson, Gavin Pollan.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sonia Michelle "Mickie" Duke.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were James Forsythe, Jackie Forsythe, Robert Bright, Dakota York, Michael Bright and Jeremy White.
