George Newton Bailey, III

George Newton Bailey, III, age 67, resident of Oakland, Tennessee, departed this life Saturday afternoon, December 23, 2023 at Gallaway Health and Rehabilitation Center.

George was born January 6, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Martha Sue Scott Bailey and the late George Newton Bailey, Jr. In younger years, he was employed at Lewis Ford on Summer Avenue in Memphis. He bought his own truck and became a truck driver for much of his life. George’s greatest accomplishment in life were his three children. He enjoyed CB and Ham Radio and refurbishing old cars with his sons. George was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Somerville Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his daughter, Amanda Lynn Bailey of Nesbit, MS; two sons, Leland Matthew Bailey (Katie) of Oakland, TN and Ethan Andrew Bailey of Oakland, TN; his mother, Martha Sue Bailey of Oakland, TN; his sister, Nancy Ann Moffitt of Heber Springs, AR; and three grandchildren, Sunni Shyan Caldwell, Leathan Lee Caldwell and Amelia Kate Bailey.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Timothy Bailey.

Memorial Services for Mr. Bailey will be at 1 P.M. Saturday, January 6, 2023 at Oakland First Baptist Church with Terry Scott officiating.
