George A. Berry

Finger, Tennessee

George A. Berry, age 90, resident of Finger, Tennessee and husband of the late Shirley Osteen Berry, departed this life Sunday morning, August 18, 2024 at Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Henderson, Tennessee.

George was born May 18, 1934 in Stantonville, Tennessee, the son of the late Thomas Abraham Berry and Flettie Taylor Berry. He served his country in the United States Army and was married for 59 years to Shirley Osteen Berry who preceded him in death on December 11, 2021. George was a carpenter who built cabinets and a plumber before his retirement. Mr. Berry was an outdoorsman who enjoyed being outside all of the time and loved fishing and hunting. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Mr. Berry is survived by his son, Melvin Berry (Tonya) of Finger, TN; his sister, Sue Sneed (Aldon) of Moscow, TN; two brothers, Troy Berry (Betty) of Stantonville, TN and Art Berry (Carol) of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Ericka Graham (Stephen) of Southaven, MS, Amanda Hart (Aaron) of Pinson, TN and Kayla Dearduff (Sean) of San Angelo, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Canaan Graham and Eden Graham, both of Southaven, MS.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Holden and Lou Smith and his brother, Marvin Berry.

Funeral Services for Mr. Berry were held at 12 noon Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Pastor Melvin Berry of Encounter Community Church in Selmer, Tennessee, officiating. He was assisted by Pastor David Paseur of Full Gospel Fellowship in Bethel Springs, Tennessee. Interment with Military Honors followed in Evergreen Cemetery at Williston, Tennessee.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Stephen Graham, Joe Yager, Aaron Hart, Pastor Melvin Berry, Pastor David Paseur and Travis Plunk. Honorary pallbearers were Canaan Graham and Sean Dearduff.
