George Lee Henry

April 22, 1936 — August 7, 2014

George Lee Henry, age 78, resident of the Somerville Community, retired welder, United States Marine Corps Veteran and husband of Elizabeth Taylor Henry, departed this life Thursday morning, August 7, 2014 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Henry were conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, August 9th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Chris Coil, pastor of the Somerville Church of Christ, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Henry was born April 22, 1936 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford George Henry and Annie Largent Henry Tapp. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1955. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was married June 3, 1961 to the former Elizabeth Taylor, who survives.

Mr. Henry was employed with Taylor Forge in Memphis and served as a welder for 45 years before his retirement in 2005. He was a longtime resident of the Somerville Community and was a member of the Somerville Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter in earlier years and enjoyed traveling and special times with his grandchildren and his pet canines.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Mr. Henry is survived by his daughter, Beverly Henry Curland (Michael) of Somerville; and two grandchildren, Danielle Elizabeth Curland and Robert Henry Curland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Danny Lee Henry; his sister, Dale McCommon; and his brother, Jack Tapp.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Al Helm, Jim Byrd, Chuck Livingston, Bobby Curland, Charles Taylor, Steven McCommon, Tommy Scott and Ernie Dowdy.
