GEORGE SHELBY MCGEE, JR.

May 23, 1949 — May 10, 2009

GEORGE SHELBY MCGEE, JR., a resident of Olive Branch, Mississippi, retired Tugboat Operator with extended family members in Fayette County died at 10 A.M. Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital where he had been a patient for eleven days. He was 59 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. McGee were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, May 12th at the Audubon Park Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor John Harrison of the Audubon Park Baptist Church, officiating. Interment with Graveside Services followed in the Somerville City Cemetery at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. McGee was born May 23, 1949 in Memphis and was educated in the Memphis Public School System.

Mr. McGee was a resident of Memphis for most of his life and had been a resident of Olive Branch for the past twelve years. He was employed as a Tugboat Operator in Memphis for a number of years and later owned and operated a trucking company in the Memphis area.

Mr. McGee was a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church and will be remembered for his love of children and animals.

He is survived by his mother, Ima Jean Northcutt McGee of Memphis; his brother, Roger L. McGee (Marti) of Germantown and a number of extended family members and friends that include a niece, Dr. Katie Middlecoff of Somerville and a nephew, Dr. Roger McGee, Jr. of Somerville.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Shelby McGee, Sr. and his sister, Jean McGee Hardie.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers included Daniel Ballard, Wes Ballard, Dr. Roger McGee and Dr. Will Middlecoff.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Audubon Park Baptist Church or to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
