Georgia Elizabeth Bobbitt Rooker, age 88, resident of Oakland and wife of the late Wilson Rutherford Rooker, departed this life Friday morning, September 30, 2016 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Rooker were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Kenneth Culver, pastor of the Warren Community Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Rooker was born March 28, 1928 in the Macon Community. She received her education in the Fayette County School System and was married August 15, 1979 to Wilson Rutherford Rooker. She was employed as a people greeter at Wal-Mart before her retirement and was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a member of the Feathers Chapel Baptist Church and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, working crossword puzzles and being around people.
Mrs. Rooker is survived by two sons, Raymond Curtis, Jerry Curtis; her step-daughter, Rene Nelson; three sisters, Hazel Irene Brooks (Ron) of Olive Branch, MS, Frances (Marilyn) Bobbitt of Somerville, TN, Patsy Sue Gladish (RoHo) of Munford, TN; and three brothers, Harvey Nelson Bobbitt (Joan) of Tupelo, MS, David Neal Bobbitt (Donna) of Hodgenville, KY, Charles (Nathan) Bobbitt (Susan) of Oakland, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Wilson Rutherford Rooker; her parents, Junius Lee Bobbitt, Willie Earl McIntyre Bobbitt; her step-daughter, Linda Roser; two sisters, Margie LaNelle Hunsucker, Linda Carol Plunk; and six brothers, Jerry Lee Bobbitt, Ollie Maurice Bobbitt, Wilburn Odell Bobbitt, Alan Bobbitt, Thomas Earl Bobbitt and Joseph Vernon Bobbitt.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Charlie Perdue, Ron Brooks, Barry Byrd, Johnny Bateman, Mike Bateman and Andy Hunsucker. Honorary pallbearers were Shane Pierce, John Spicer, Harry Roberson and Danny Rayford.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Warren Community Church, 11800 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
