Geraldine O. "Dean" Overton, age 84, resident of Cordova and wife of the late Billy H. Overton, departed this life Monday evening, November 14, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Overton were conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Living Hope Church - Vollintine Evergreen in Memphis. The Celebrant was Mark Horton and personal remarks were given by Casey Sigler. Special music was provided by Janie Smith, soloist. Interment followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Dean was born November 28, 1931 in Bells, Tennessee. She was married to Billy Overton for 67 years until his death in 2014. They met in Bells and moved to Memphis after their marriage. Dean was a homemaker, a cake decorator, and worked in the deli at the Piggly Wiggly stores, but most of all she was known for being a woman who opened her home to everyone. Over the years, many people and children lived with them whenever a need arose and too many to count put their feet under her table to enjoy a great meal.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Bobby (Sherry) Overton of Morristown, TN, Debra (Jerry) Cannon of Byhalia, MS, Lynn (Tim) Murray of Oakland, TN; grandchildren, Dawn Hearn (Peter), Barry Overton (Shannon), Casey Cannon Sigler (Caleb), Billy Murray (Kaite), Maggie Murray; great-grandchildren, Hayden (Summer), Jacob, Ethan, Hudson and Emma Hearn, Harris and Grace Overton, Gwendolyn and Evangeline Sigler, and Braden Murray; one great-great-grandchild, Lillian; sister, Lynda Arnold of Alamo, TN; and brother, Larry Overton of Huntington, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt Hudson Overton and Ollie Mai Mitchell Overton; her son, Jimmy Ray Overton; and her sister, Anne Emison.
The McGowan family, the Crum family and the Flowers family were her children by choice.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Barrett Overton, Billy Murray, Hayden Hearn, Jacob Hearn, Ethan Hearn and Hudson Hearn. Honorary pallbearers were Harris Overton and Braden Murray.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Shepherds Haven, 175 Shepherds Haven Way, Arlington, TN 38002.
