Gerald Edward "Jerry" Lucas, age 79, resident of Somerville and husband of Carolyn Paxson Lucas, departed this life Saturday evening, April 23, 2016 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Lucas were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Steve Via officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Lucas was born October 16, 1936 in Memphis. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was married July 30, 1960 to the former Carolyn Paxson and was employed as a long haul truck operator for many years before his retirement. Mr. Lucas was a member of the Fayette Baptist Church and a member of the Local Union 667 Teamsters Union. He enjoyed watching Westerns, going out to eat, landscaping and woodworking.
Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Carolyn Paxson Lucas of Somerville; three sons, Victor Lucas and his wife, Carolyn, of Collierville, Randy Lucas and his wife, Dena of Memphis, Bret Lucas of Trenton; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Edward Lucas and Aberdeen Parkins Lucas; two sons, Clinton Eugene Lucas, Gerald Edward Lucas, Jr.; three sisters, Claudeen Rudy, Jean Andrews, Linda Watkins; and two brothers, Ronnie Lucas and Bobby Lucas.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Randy Lucas, Victor Lucas, Bret Lucas, Larry McClure, Mike Wilson and Lenny Hall.
