Gerald "Marty" Eugene Rogers, Jr.

Gerald Eugene “Marty” Rogers, Jr., resident of the Middleton Community and former resident of Fayette County, departed this life on Easter Sunday evening, April 20, 2014 at his residence. He was 50 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Rogers were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, April 23rd at the Graveside with Rev. Kent Bailey of Somerville and Bro. Kevin Treadway of Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Rogers was born November 22, 1963 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Eugene Rogers, Sr. and Lottie Cornelia Scallions Rogers. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette Ware High School in Somerville.

Mr. Rogers was a Christian and was employed as a machinist in the Memphis area for much of his life before retiring for health reasons. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette, Hardeman and Shelby County areas and will be remembered as an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed many outdoor activities.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his daughter, Jacquelyn Nicole Rogers of Corpus Christi, TX; his sister, Denise Newsom of Byhalia, MS; two brothers, Anthony Wayne Rogers of Middleton, Jere Lynn Rogers of Braden; two grandsons, Joe Luis Ayala, III, Jaython Alexander Ayala; and his former wife, Lisa Rogers of Middleton.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville City Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 909, Somerville, TN 38068 or to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
