Gertrude Haygood

Evelyn Gertrude Griffin Haygood, resident of the Oakland Community and retired caregiver departed this life Wednesday afternoon, August 21, 2013 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for one week. She was 87 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services for Mrs. Haygood were private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Haygood was born December 24, 1925 in Bald Knob, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Edward Griffin and Ella Nina Houston Griffin. She received her education in the Bald Knob, Arkansas Public School System and was married to Lawrence O. Haygood, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Haygood was a former resident of Richardson, Texas for much of her life and served as a caregiver for healthcare agencies before her retirement 25 years ago. She was a Christian and participated in church activities while a member of the Monhans Pentecostal Church in Monhans, Texas and the Collierville First Pentecostal Church. In recent years she had resided with her sister in the Oakland Community and being with members of her family.

Mrs. Haygood is survived by her daughter, Mary Gnader of Forney, TX; her son, Charles James Risner of Garland, TX; her sister, Katie Lawrene Risner of Oakland; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
