Gladys Viola Haase Cook, resident of the Bolivar Community, former resident of Somerville and wife of the late Raymond L. Cook died Tuesday morning, March 8, 2011 at the Pine Meadows Healthcare Center in Bolivar where she had been a resident for four years. She was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Cook were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, March 11 th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Kenneth Culver of Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of the Vildo Community in Hardeman County, Mrs. Cook was born November 23, 1927. She was educated in the Hardeman County Public School System and was preceded in death by her parents William H. Haase and Lena H. Ferge Haase. She was a member of Feathers Chapel Baptist Church and her interests included quilting, sewing and fishing.
Mrs. Cook was a homemaker throughout her life and was also employed by Ripley Industrial Company for 28 years before her retirement. She was the wife of the late Raymond L. Cook.
Survivors of Mrs. Cook include her daughter: Polly Glover (L. C.) of Jackson, TN; her sons: Kenneth W. Cook (Linda) of Somerville and Curtis Ray Cook (Barbara of Somerville; her sisters: Augustine Pittman of Whiteville, Mildred Bryant of Whiteville, Bernice Odell Lester of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to Mrs. Cook’s husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Johnny Cook: her sister: Otillion Robbins and her brothers: Billy Haase, Raymond Haase and Richard Haase.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Evan Ray Cook, Kenny Cook, Michael Raymond Cook, Austin Elder, Larry Glover, Kenny Kee and Little Rick Reeves.
