Gladys Lee Banta, age 90, resident of Bartlett, Tennessee and wife of the late Angel Luis Banta Santos, Sr., departed this life Monday morning, April 1, 2024, at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville, Tennessee.
Gladys was born January 9, 1934, in Greenville, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Broadus Lee Elder and Lou Mae “Lula” Griffith. She graduated from Southside High School in Greenville and continued her education to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Gladys was married September 7, 2002, to Angel Luis Banta Santos, Sr. who preceded her in death. Mrs. Banta was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed cross stitching, gardening, crafts, singing, going to the beach, fishing, cooking, and baking. She will be remembered for being a snazzy dresser. She loved her congregation and enjoyed telling people about the coming New World under God's Kingdom.
Mrs. Banta is survived by her daughter, Mary Pena (Erik) of Bartlett, TN; her son, Michael Millen (Caryn) of Raleigh, NC; her stepson, John Millen (Lyla Talbot) of Houston, TX; her sister, Martha Evangeline “Vangie” Poynter of Greenville, SC; her brother, Kenneth Leroy Elder of Greenville, SC; along with many nieces, nephews, grand dogs, and grand birds.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Mae Pearson.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Banta were held at 1 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oakland, Tennessee with Michael Millen officiating.
