Gladys Lou (Bryant) Wood

March 8, 1929 — January 30, 2012

Gladys Lou Bryant Wood, resident of Byhalia, MS with extended family members in Fayette and Hardeman counties died Monday morning, January 30, 2012 at the residence of her daughter near Byhalia. She was 82 years of age and died following an illness of 2-½ months.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Wood were conducted at 3 P.M. Thursday, February 2nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Mrs. Wood’s son-in-law, Rev. Jack Barton of Mattoon, IL officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. Wood was born March 8, 1929 in Bolivar. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boss Bryant and Mary Lou Sanders Bryant. She received her education in the Hardeman County Public School System and was the wife of the late Claude Odel Wood, a retired carpenter, who died December 1, 2004.

Mrs. Wood was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a lifelong resident of the Shelby, Fayette and Hardeman County areas and had resided with her daughter at Byhalia in recent years. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening as long as health permitted and enjoyed special times with her family and large number of grandchildren. She will be remembered for her pleasant smile and quiet mannerisms.

Mrs. Wood is survived by three daughters, Glenda Barton (Jack) of Mattoon, IL, Barbara Rock (Jim) of Memphis, Patricia Hunt (Charles) of Byhalia, MS; three sons, Cecil Warren (Joan) of St. Louis, MO, Ronnie Warren (Jeanette) of Byhalia, MS, Johnny Warren (Tonya) of Southaven, MS; two sisters, Shirley Moore of Olive Branch, MS, Ruby Bryant of Mt. Pleasant, MS; two brothers, Laverne Bryant (Dorothy) of Collierville, James Bryant of Jackson, TN; 23 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Family members and friends served as casketbearers and the family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
