Glen Jacob Kinney

Glen Jacob Kinney, age 86, longtime resident of Whiteville, Tennessee, departed this life Friday afternoon, November 10, 2017 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Kinney were conducted at 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Bill Sorrell, pastor of Whiteville First Baptist Church, officiating. Personal remarks were given by James Warf, Mr. Kinney’s brother-in-law. Interment followed in the Melrose Cemetery in Whiteville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Kinney was born December 7, 1930 in Kenton, Tennessee. He moved with his family at an early age to Hardeman County, where he attended Whiteville High School. He was a resident of the Whiteville area for 76 years and was a member of Whiteville First Baptist Church. Mr. Kinney served his country in the United States Marine Corps in 1952. He was employed with Wilson Well Company, Whiteville Lumber Company and was the city maintenance supervisor for the Town of Whiteville before his retirement after 40 years of employment. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, working in his yard, collecting coins and watching westerns on television.

Mr. Kinney is survived by his daughter, Glenda Jane Doyle (Timothy) of Whiteville, TN; his son, Henry Lee Kinney (Melissa Gail Furnish) of Union, KY; nine grandchildren, Kenneth DeWayne Doyle, William Matthew Doyle, Samantha DeNene Kinney, Ricky Lee Kinney, Amanda Michelle Doyle Harris, Margaret Elizabeth Kinney, Mary-Kandice Alexis Doyle; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kinney was preceded in death by his first wife whom he married May 22, 1954, Sadie Mae Warf Kinney who died June 24, 1993; his second wife whom he married in 1997, Lorine Goodman Kinney who died April 28, 2015; his parents, Alfred Henry Kinney and Essie Lee Williams Kinney; three sisters, Kathleen Elizabeth Hubble, Margaret Marie Mayfield, Zora Ola Berryman; five brothers, Marvin Elijah Kinney, Wayne Alfred Kinney, Asbury Whitten Kinney, James Wesley Kinney, George Arnold Kinney; his half-sister, Evelyn Quinn; and four half-brothers, Carl Kinney, Preston Allen Kinney, Duke William Kinney and Henry Vernon Kinney.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Charles Kinney, Jeffrey Kinney, Jimmy Berryman, Dennis Berryman, Michael Berryman, and Gene Smalley. Honorary pallbearers included David Kinney.
