Glenn Estell Robbins

Glenn Estell “Rob” Robbins, longtime resident of the Hickory Withe Community, World War II Veteran and retired business owner in Memphis died Monday evening, January 7, 2013 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis. He was 89 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Robbins were conducted at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, January 10th at the Graveside with Rev. Robert Gross of Covington officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Hickory Withe. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Robbins was a native of Ohio and was born April 27, 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh N. Robbins and Corda McKinny Robbins. He received his education in the Ohio Public School System. He served as a young person in the United States Army during the World War II Period and was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Rogers Robbins, who died 23 years ago.

Mr. Robbins owned and operated the Advance Muffler Service on Summer Avenue in Memphis for 25 years before his retirement 10 years ago. He was a Methodist and had been a resident of the Hickory Withe Community for 47 years. He was a collector of antique cars and enjoyed buying and selling vehicles. He received pleasure with his horsedrawn wagon and team of mules for area events.

Mr. Robbins is survived by his wife, Anita Westmoreland Robbins of Hickory Withe; two daughters, Lindsey McCaig of Hickory Withe, Dawn Hensley of Hickory Withe; two sons, Michael Robbins of Lakeland, Gary Kelso of Macon, GA; two sisters, Virginia Robbins, Ina Faye Bustle; three brothers, Clell N. Robbins, Robert B. Robbins, William V. Robbins; a half-sister, Jane Chestnut; a half-brother, Randal Robbins; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Robbins was also preceded by his sister, Elma Jewell Fornash.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association, c/o Jim Mitchell or the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
