Glennie Ruth “Glen” Miller Short, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of Leslie L. Short departed this life Saturday afternoon, December 7, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where she had been a patient for five days. She was 80 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Short were conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday, December 10th at the Somerville Church of Christ with Chris Coil, pastor of the Somerville Church of Christ, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Short was born April 25, 1933 in Ripley, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Miller and Irene Ballard Miller. She received her education in the Tippah County, Mississippi Public School System and was married October 12, 1952 to Leslie Leon Short, who survives.
Mr. and Mrs. Short were residents of the Memphis area for a number of years before moving to the Somerville Community 12 years ago. They were the owners and operators of the Acme Glass Company in Memphis, where Mrs. Short served as office manager and secretary for 35 years before her retirement in 1996. She was devoted to her family and to her church and at the time of her death was an active member of the Somerville Church of Christ, where she participated in numerous church activities.
Mrs. Short will be remembered as a fun-loving person who enjoyed life and special times with her family and her church family. Traveling in earlier years was a favorite pastime for Mr. and Mrs. Short.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, Mrs. Short is survived by her daughter, Terry Alexander (Phillip) of Oakland; her son, Ronnie Leon Short (Janice) of Jackson, TN; two sisters, Joyce Cook of North Little Rock, AR, Velva Jane Jarvis of Ripley, MS; two brothers, James Miller of Ripley, MS, Danny Miller of Ingomar, MS; five grandchildren, Chris Short, Shelby Young, Shea Alexander, Beth Chester and Shanon Savage; and five great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Phil Alexander, Shea Alexander, Tim Savage, Brad Delco, Brian White and Clayton Brown.
