Glenn Ray “Coach” Essary, Sr., age 84, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life Friday morning, January 11, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Essary was held at 3 P.M. Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Liberty Baptist Church in the Laconia Community with Bro. Terry Logan officiating. Interment followed in the Crowell Chapel Cemetery in Decaturville, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Glenn was born March 21 ,1934 in Lexington, Tennessee, the son of the late Roosevelt Essary and Cordie Lucinda Haggard Essary. He was a graduate of Memphis State University and was employed as a school teacher and football and basketball coach at Bartlett High School for many years. He loved farming and raising cows, chickens and hogs. Glenn enjoyed watching college basketball, hunting and special times with his family members.
Mr. Essary is survived by his daughter, Beth Essary of Cordova, TN; his son, Ray Essary of Cordova, TN; his sister, Bettie Jo Boyd of Parsons, TN; his brother, Maurice Essary (Bobbi) of Jackson, TN; two grandsons, Jimmy Essary (Morgan Winters) of Somerville, TN, Gray Essary of Somerville, TN; and his lady friend, Dorothy “Dot” Moore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eliza Kathleen Essary.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Mark Robertson, Howard Dowdy, Tim Dowdy, Marty Carrington, Lee Jones and Lance Stewart.
