Gloria Jean Brodigan
May 25, 1937 — February 1, 2008
GLORIA JEAN JONES BRODIGAN, resident of the Somerville Community and retired nurse and caregiver, died at 6:40 P.M. Friday, February 1, 2008, at St. Peter Villa Retirement Center in Memphis where she had been a resident for the past year. She was 70 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Brodigan were conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday February 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Loyd Shelton, Baptist minister of Rossville, TN, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of the state of Missouri, Mrs. Brodigan was born May 25, 1937, the daughter of the late Hoyde Norman Jones and the late Catherine Douthit Jones. She moved at an early age with her family to the Memphis area where she was educated in the Shelby County public school system. She continued her education by graduating from the Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis. She was a former resident of Memphis before moving to Fayette County to reside with her daughter, Alicia Harris, who operates the local BP Station, "Always Never" on Hwy. 64 in Somerville.
Mrs. Brodigan served as a nurse at the Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis and the Methodist Hospital System for many years before her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith and was the wife of the late Carl Brodigan who died in 1977. Mrs. Brodigan's entire life focused on serving as a caregiver to others. She will be remembered as a devoted nurse who enjoyed family times and nature.
Mrs. Brodigan is survived by her daughter, Alicia Harris of Somerville; four sons, Terry Tharnish of Memphis, Larry Tharnish of Hernando, MS, Bobby and David Tharnish of Springfield, MO; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
