GREGORY LANCE PHELPS, SR.

Mr. Gregory Lance “Greg” Phelps, Sr., resident of the Oakland Community and husband of Robin Finch Phelps, died Wednesday morning, July 28, 2010 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. He was 59 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Phelps was conducted at 2 P.M. Friday July 30

at the Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland with Rev. Rob Martin of Paris, Tennessee, former pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes – West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Phelps was born August 3, 1950, in Ripley, Mississippi, the son of the late Joseph Whitie Phelps and the late Dell W. May Phelps. He moved at an early age with his family to Memphis and received his education in the Memphis public school system and the University of Memphis. Mr. Phelps was a partner in The Tuxedo Corporation of America in Virginia Beach, Virginia before retiring for health reasons. He was a former resident of Memphis and had been a resident of the Oakland community for the past ten years.
Mr. Phelps was a devoted member of the Faith United Methodist Church and participated in church activities as long as health permitted. He was married September 10, 1988 to the former Robin Finch Phelps, District Sales Manager for the Avon Products Corporation, who survives. Mr. Phelps will be remembered as a family oriented person who enjoyed humor and found much enjoyment during his illness in caring for his pet canine, “Buttons”.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Casey Marie Phelps of Oakland, Greg L. Phelps, Jr. (Rachel) of Cordova, Christopher Matthew Phelps of Oakland, his sister, Kathleen Sanders (Eddie) of Madison, Alabama, Stephen Phelps (Barbara) of Heber Springs, AR and his granddaughter, Rebecca Phelps of Cordova.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Chris Carson, Danny Culp, Rick Douglass, Bob Knowles, Eddie Pattat, Ronnie Phelps, Rusty Reed, Eddie Sanders and Kerry Winstead.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Faith United Methodist Church of Oakland.
