Hal Haywood Thompson, Sr., age 76, lifetime resident of La Grange, Tennessee and husband of the late Jo Ann Dawkins Thompson, departed this life Sunday morning, April 2, 2017 at his residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Thompson were conducted at 1 P.M. Friday, April 7, 2017 at Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville. The officiating ministers were Bro. John Ed Watkins, Bro. Gary Joyner and Bro. Billy Adair. Interment followed in the La Grange Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Thompson was born July 2, 1940 in La Grange, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal Thompson and Mary Haywood Ewell Thompson. He was married February 21, 1965 to the former Jo Ann Dawkins, who preceded him in death on August 5, 2011. He was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville and was the owner of Thompson Plumbing for much of his life before his retirement.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed working with his tractors, attending the Field Trials, bird hunting, horses, gospel singing, pulling jokes on people and special times with his family. He will be remembered for his love of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and he left a Christian example by witnessing his salvation to people.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his daughter, Karen Watkins (Jerry) of La Grange, TN; three sons, Randy Gaither (Michelle) of Rossville, TN, Hal Thompson, Jr. (Nikki) of La Grange, TN, James “Bubsy” Thompson (Diane) of La Grange, TN; two sisters, Jean Taylor of Memphis, TN, Edith Osteen of La Grange, TN; twelve grandchildren, Wendy Johnson (Ryan), Zack Watkins (fiancée, Courtney), Felicia Dewitt (Aaron), Jessica Staggs (Brandon), Heather Gaither (fiancé, Jeff), Josh Thompson (Elizabeth), Brooklyn Gaither, Nick Thompson, Autumn Gaither, Chris Thompson, Colin Hickerson, Taylor Hickerson; and twelve great-grandchildren, Layne, Emily, Owen, Weston, McKinley, Kyleigh, Kaleigh, Macey, Lily, Reese, Emmett and Annalynn.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alec Thompson and two great-grandchildren, Gracie Dewitt and Eli Staggs.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Zack Watkins, Josh Thompson, Nick Thompson, Chris Thompson, Brandon Staggs and Aaron Dewitt. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Bruce, Layne Ray and Ryan Johnson.
