HARLEY GUY PRIDGEN JR., resident of the Millington Community, retired U.S. Naval careerperson and husband of the former Dorothy Nell “Dot” Parrott of Fayette County, departed this life Sunday evening, August 7, 2011 at the Methodist – North Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 10 days. He was 83 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services with Full Military Honors for Mr. Pridgen were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, August 12 th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Ron McMillian of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Tipton County, officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Pridgen was born December 12, 1927 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of the late Harley Guy Pridgen, Sr. and the late Maybell Marrs Pridgen. He served his country abroad and stateside in the United States Navy for 24 years before his retirement and had been a resident of the Millington community since 1967. He was married December 5, 1980 to the former Dorothy Nell Parrott of Fayette County, who preceded him in death on April 14, 2010.

After completing his military career, Mr. Pridgen served as a flight instructor for Charles Baker Airport in Millington and was a lieutenant in the Millington Fire Department for 20 years before his retirement in 1994. He was of the Baptist faith and will be remembered as a person who enjoyed camping, fishing and music.

Mr. Pridgen is survived by his six daughters, Arlene Pridgen (Randy) Talley of Duncan, MS, Audrey Pridgen (Steve) Slomkowski of Atoka, TN, Sarah Wilson (Dan) Fowler of Knoxville, TN, Becky Wilson (Jay) Nelson of Salem, AR, Patricia Wilson (Billy Joe) Spicer of Somerville, TN and Pat Cloud (Doyle) of Tallahassee, FL; hissister, Barbara Terrill of Irving, TX; his brother, Jess Pridgen of Mills, WY; 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jeff Talley, J.T. Talley, Chris Talley, Josh Nelson, Walter Nelson and Mike Taylor.

Honorary casketbearers were Brent Rickman, Brian Culver, Casey Hartsook and Adam Slomkowski.
