HAROLD THOMAS JOHNSON

June 24, 1950 — October 22, 2009

HAROLD THOMAS JOHNSON, a resident of Memphis and former resident of the Somerville Community died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was 59 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Johnson were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, October 27th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Loyd Shelton, Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Collierville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Johnson was born June 24, 1950 in Somerville the son of the late John Allen Johnson and the late Otellion Wright Johnson.

He was educated in the Fayette and Shelby County Public School Systems and was a lifelong resident of the Somerville and Memphis areas.

Mr. Johnson was of the Baptist faith and was employed in the manufacturing division of the Memphis Sash & Door Corporation for a number of years before retiring for health reasons.

He will be remembered as a person who enjoyed out-of-door activities and was an avid fisherman in earlier years.

Survivors of Mr. Johnson include his daughter, Candice Palugi of Cordova and her mother, Sandra Wright of Memphis; his sister, Donna Thomas of Memphis; two grandchildren; four nieces and four nephews.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were family members and friends.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
