Harold Clarence Moore, resident of Antioch-Feathers Chapel Community near Somerville, retired carpenter and builder, United States Veteran and husband of Ruby Moore died Tuesday afternoon, September 4, 2012 at his residence. He was 76 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Moore were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with a family friend, Bro. Sonny Lackey of Cordova officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Moore was born November 20, 1935 in Belmont, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Moore and Zella Hill Moore. He received his education in the Tishomingo County Public School System in Mississippi and as a young person served in the United States Army. He moved to the Memphis area at an early age and was involved in the residential and commercial construction of the area for many years before his retirement.
He had been a resident of Fayette County since 1986. Mr. Moore was a longtime Baptist and was a member of the Oakland First Baptist Church at the time of his death. He received much pleasure in operating his saw and blade sharpening shop at his home in recent years, making many friends in the community and providing an important service to area residents.
He was married February 19, 1973 to the former Ruby Thurmond of Lauderdale County, Tennessee, a longtime bookkeeper for Sears in Memphis before her retirement, who survives. Mr. Moore was the epitome of respect for all mankind. He always made the least or the greatest feel special. He had a love and concern for all people everywhere and will be remembered for his patriotism and love for Christianity, his family and his community. He enjoyed gardening, frequent visits with his friends at McDonald’s in Oakland and was known for his neat appearance and everpresent smile.
In addition to his wife of 39 years, Mr. Moore is survived by his daughter, Amy Price (Greg) of Maynard, MA; two sons, Patrick Moore (Cathy) of Fulton, MS, Michael Moore (Leslie) of Oakland; his sister, Martha Raye Carr of Belmont, MS; two brothers, Max Moore of Saltillo, MS, Johnny Moore of Saltillo, MS; and six grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were deacons and friends of the Oakland First Baptist Church.
