Harold Minton Smith, Jr., age 79, resident of Oakland, Tennessee and husband of Robin Smith, departed this life Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Harold was born November 2, 1941 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the son of the late Harold Minton Smith and Leota Stanford Smith. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was employed at Cargill in the maintenance department for over 25 years before his retirement. After retirement, he worked at Wal-Mart for 15 years and was known to many as Mr. Wal-Mart or Wal-Mart Man. Harold was a member of Brinkley Heights Baptist Church in Memphis and was involved with a tutoring program for youth and the food pantry. He was involved with Helping Hands food delivery program at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Somerville.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of almost 29 years, Robin Smith of Oakland, TN; his daughter, Annette Mills (John) of Grand Junction, TN; his son, Harold Minton Smith, III of Columbus, MS; his stepson, Sean Prewett (Cheryl) of Hernando, MS; two sisters, Margie Luster of Jonesboro, AR and Sarah Jane Green of Little Rock, AR; his brother, Jim Ray (Doreen) of San Angelo, TX; five grandchildren, Joshua Smith (Tracy) of Middleton, TN, Kisten Roberts of Cordova, TN, Zachary Roberts (Amanda) of Olive Branch, MS, Jessica Baskett (Britt) of Tupelo, MS and Bradley Smith of Columbus, MS; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves three dogs, Belle, Woo and Scooter.
A gathering of family and friends of Mr. Minton will be held from 2 to 4 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Somerville.
