Harold Dean Sprayberry

February 28, 1935 — December 12, 2007

HAROLD DEAN SPRAYBERRY, a resident of the Moscow Community and retired farmer and heavy equipment operator died at 3:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 6 days. He was 72 years of age and died following a brief illness.


Funeral services for Mr. Sprayberry were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 15th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. David Reeves, Pastor of the Midway Baptist Church at Whiteville, officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery of the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.


Mr. Sprayberry was born February 28, 1935 in Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Les Sprayberry and Ida Bond Sprayberry. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School system and was married July 9, 1958 to the former Lillie Cannon of Fayette County, who survives.


Mr. Sprayberry was a lifelong resident of the Somerville and Moscow areas and was involved with his farming and heavy equipment operation for many years before his retirement a number of years ago. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Sprayberry enjoyed nature, fishing and camping and in later years found much enjoyment in playing golf with his friends at the area golf clubs. He had a great love for horses and looked forward to special times with his family on the weekends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his large family.


In addition to his wife of nearly 50 years, Mr. Sprayberry is survived by four daughters: Ida Louise Hall (Jimmy), Sharron Sprayberry (Thomas Cannon) and Brenda Bryson (Raymond) all of Somerville and Diann Kelley (Jim) of Oakland; two sons: Lesley Sprayberry (Cathie Scott) of Whiteville and Richard Sprayberry of Somerville; his sister, Estelle Tennon of Oakland; his brother James Sprayberry of Adamsville, TN, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Sprayberry who died in 1990.


Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Billy Joe Cannon, Michael Cannon, Tony Cannon, Thomas Elrod, Kenny Rooker and Joe Thompson.
