Harrell Maurice Kee

Harrell Maurice Kee, longtime resident of the Oakland Community, retired builder and United States Veteran, died at 4:45 A.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was 75 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Kee were conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday at the Victory Life Assembly of God Church in Somerville with Carl Doyle of Oakland, officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Kee was born January 23, 1933, in Fayette County, the son of the late Hosea Kee, Sr. and the late Lola Baxter Markle Kee. He was educated in the public school system of Fayette County and was married October 20, 1956, to the former Lillie Bell Campbell, a native of Haywood County, who survives.

Mr. Kee was co-owner with his brother, Bobby Kee of Kee Brothers Construction, specializing in residential construction in the West Tennessee area. He served in the United States Army in earlier years and was a lifelong resident of Fayette County. Mr. Kee was a devoted member of the Warren Assembly of God Church that later became the Victory Life Assembly of God Church and was instrumental in the construction in 1980 of the former church building.

Mr. Kee was active in the Republican Party of Fayette County throughout his life and was a candidate for the State Representative in earlier years as well as serving as President of the local party. He was an avid outdoorsman and his interests included hunting, fishing and gardening. A John Wayne movie enthusiast, Mr. Kee will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who also assisted in the care of his two oldest grandchildren after the death of their father.

In addition to his wife of fifty-one years, Mr. Kee is survived by his daughter, Janice Kee Boyles of Oakland; his sons, Jeffrey D. Kee and Carleton D. Kee, both of Oakland, Harlan M. Kee of Williston; three sisters, Charlene Hurst and Peggy Smith, both of Somerville, Betty Fay Joyner of Moscow; five brothers, Bobby Kee, Sr. of Covington, Hosea Kee, Jr. of Cullman, AL, Jackie Kee, Thurman Kee, both of Somerville and Perry Kee of Stanton and 7 grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Randy Kee, Bobby Kee, Jr., Byron Smith, Jerry Campbell, Christopher Lansdell and Daniel Lansdell. Honorary casketbearers were Mark Sprayberry, Justin Sprayberry and Kerry Smith.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association.
