HARRY WILLIAM ARNDT

HARRY WILLIAM ARNDT, a resident of Bartlett, TN and father of Gary Arndt of Somerville, died at 11:12 P.M. Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where he had been a patient for one day. He was 92 years of age and died following a brief illness.

A visitation for family and friends was held from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, June 29th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Interment will be at a later date in California. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Arndt was born March 27, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Arthur Arndt and the late Jennifer Arndt. He received his education in private schools and moved at an early age with his parents to California. He served in the Reserve Army Training School of the United States Army and was married in 1941 to the former Mittie Vernece Caliway who preceded him in death April 6, 2007.

Mr. Arndt was of the Catholic Faith and had been a resident of Bartlett since 1994. He was a Mechanical Engineer throughout much of his life and served as Manager of Manufacturing for the Carrier Corporation in Collierville before his retirement.

Mr. Arndt will be remembered as an avid golfer and sports fan with a special love for baseball throughout his life. In earlier years he served as a semi-professional baseball player.

Survivors of Mr. Arndt include three sons: Gary Arndt (Trudie) of Somerville; Tom Arndt (Hiroko) of Sierra Madre, CA and Larry Arndt of Duarte, CA; his sister, Dorothea Plant of San Francisco, CA; two brothers, Artie Arndt of Anacortes, WA and Dean Arndt of Torrance, CA; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
