Harry Robert Rhoads, resident of Somerville, United States Veteran and husband of the late Marjorie Jean Williams Rhoads, departed this life Wednesday morning, June 11, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for one month. He was 92 years of age and died following an illness of nine months.
A Gathering of Family Members and Friends of Mr. Rhoads was from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, June 13th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Rhoads was born October 13, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Straub Rhoads and Mary Irene John Rhoads. He received his education in the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Public School System and served his country in the United States Army as a young person. He was married June 5, 1946 to the former Marjorie Jean Williams, who preceded him in death on February 6, 2003.
Mr. Rhoads was employed as an office supply distributor for the International Paper Company in Memphis for 15 years before his retirement. He was a Christian in faith and enjoyed special times with his family and friends.
Mr. Rhoads is survived by his daughter, Nancy Rhoads of Cordova; his son, Bobby Rhoads (Vonnie) of Somerville; two sisters, Sally Young of Berlin, Ohio, Jean Leach of Florida; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Harry S. Rhoads, who died November 22, 2006.
