Harry Samuel Shaw, III, resident of Memphis, former resident of the Somerville Community and United States Air Force Veteran, departed this life Wednesday morning, January 15, 2014 in the comfort of his home. He was 86 years of age and died following an illness of several weeks.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Shaw were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, January 18th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Gerry Peak, a pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Shaw was born October 3, 1927 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Samuel Shaw, Jr. and Lieugenia McKnight Shaw, early residents of the Somerville and Fayette County areas. He was the husband of Irmgard Anna “Susi” Bayer Shaw, who preceded him in death on February 28, 2007. He was well-known in the Memphis area as a forecaster for the United States Weather Service for over 30 years before his retirement.
Mr. Shaw served as a Major in the Tennessee Air National Guard and was baptized at Somerville Presbyterian Church where he was a member for over 30 years. For the last 40 years Mr. Shaw was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis. He had been a member of the Somerville Masonic Lodge, the Memphis Scottish Rite and the Al Chymia Shrine.
Mr. Shaw is survived by two sons, Dr. H. Sam Shaw IV (Leslie) of Germantown and Edward Eldon Shaw (Stacey) of Memphis; five grandchildren, H. Samuel Shaw V, Meredith J. Shaw, Hunter S. Shaw, Isabella A. Shaw, Ainsley A. Shaw; nephews, David E. Shaw and Mark H. Shaw; and multiple dear cousins and friends.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Neli Shaw, Ed Shaw, Arno Shaw, David Shaw, Mark Shaw, Dr. Mike Henson, Dr. Jon Stanford and Jay Stanford.
