HAZEL ELIZABETH FLYNN MARKLE

August 7, 1926 — March 21, 2009

HAZEL ELIZABETH FLYNN MARKLE, a resident of the Somerville Community and wife of Vernon R. Markle, Sr. died at 12:01 P.M. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one day. She was 82 years of age and died following a ten-day illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Markle were conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday, March 24th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Ricky Burns, Pastor of the Williston Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. Markle was born August 7, 1926 in Hughes Arkansas. She moved at an early age with her family to the Memphis area and received her education in the Southaven, Mississippi Public School System. Mrs. Markle was a former resident of Memphis and was employed by the original Leonard's Barbecue on Bellevue in Memphis for a number of years.

She was married December 30, 1977 to Vernon R. Markle of Fayette County, who survives. Mr. Markle is a retired career person from the United States Marines and employee of the John S. Wilder Youth Development Center in Somerville.

Mrs. Markle was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of Fayette County for thirty years. She enjoyed music and singing as a young person and was an avid card player.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Markle is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Hutchison of Memphis; two step-sons, Vernon Ray Markle, Jr. of Hickory Valley, TN and Ronald L. Markle of Somerville; three sisters: Frances Henderson of Fort Smith, AR; Betty Thompson of Senatobia, MS and Ruby Raymond of Savannah, Illinois and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that include: Stephanie Pitts, Corky Hutchison, Stacy Pitts and Kortney Hutchison.

She was preceded in death by one step-son, David Markle and two brothers and two sisters.
