Hazel Kathleen (Bryan) Yarbrough

August 2, 1922 — March 9, 2017

Hazel Kathleen Bryan Yarbrough, age 94, resident of Whiteville and wife of the late Ennis Hampton Yarbrough, departed this life Thursday morning, March 9, 2017 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Yarbrough were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Whiteville. The officiating minister was Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Somerville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Yarbrough was born August 2, 1922 in Hillville, Tennessee, a small community in rural southeast Haywood County. After graduation from Haywood County High School, she married Ennis Yarbrough and was a resident of Hardeman County for most of her life. She lived her remaining last years at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville, Tennessee.

Mrs. Yarbrough was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Whiteville and served in many community activities and clubs for years. She was a talented seamstress for her children’s clothing and was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing her harvest with family and friends. She was employed at Wells Lamont in Brownsville for many years before changing careers and retiring from Western State Hospital in Bolivar.

Mrs. Yarbrough is survived by her twin daughters, Jean Jenkins (Jamie) of Somerville, TN and Jane Parks (Tommy) of Hickory Withe, TN; her sister, Melissa Dennison (Jim) of Jackson, TN; and her special childhood friend and confidant, Esther Bendush, now a resident of California. Some of her happiest times were spent with her six grandchildren, Revonda Wack (John) of Bristow, VA, Marcq Harris (Kristy) of Olive Branch, MS, Christopher Parks of Apex, NC, Audra Pelsue (T.J.) of Syracuse, NY, Elisha Vego (John) of Memphis, TN, Eric Jenkins (Christina) of Dexter, MO and her seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ennis Hampton Yarbrough who died September 25, 2003; her daughter, Jeanette Rhodes; her parents, J.E. (Heck) Bryan, Mary Hardister Bryan and Cozette Bryan. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Maureen Davenport (Doug), Virginia Adams (Warren), Mary Edwards (Eddie) and her infant brother, Paul Bryan.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers at the National HealthCare Center who provided comfort to Mrs. Yarbrough while she was a resident.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Chris Parks, Eric Jenkins, Marcq Harris, Terry Johnson, Darryl Johnson, Warren Adams, Lynn Edwards, Jim Dennison, John Vego and John Wack.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, c/o Danny O. Watson, 1234 Hillville Loop, Whiteville, TN 38075.
