Helen Ivy
1922—2010
Helen Curtis Ivy, longtime resident of Somerville Community and wife of the late John Ivy died Wednesday morning, December 29, 2010 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was 88 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ivy were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, December 31

at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Elder Paul Scott officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of the Woodville Community in Chester County, Mrs. Ivy was born May 25, 1922. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Patrick Cox and Martha Etta Hatch Cox. Mrs. Ivy was educated in the Chester County Public School System and was a graduate of the Henderson County High School. She was married December 8, 1946 to the late John Howard Ivy a U. S. WW II Army Veteran who was associated with the Fayette County Unit of the National Guard and also served in past years as Somerville Police Chief and as a Tennessee Highway Department Trooper. Mr. Ivy died July 1, 2002.
Mrs. Ivy was a devoted homemaker throughout her life and as a young person taught school in Chester County before her marriage. She was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church on Somerville/LaGrange Road and had been a resident of the Somerville Community for over fifty-five years. Mrs. Ivy’s interests included caring for her yard, growing flowers, sewing and special times with her “Ladies Cards and Games Group”. An immaculate housekeeper, Mrs. Ivy enjoyed quality time with her grandchildren and family members.
Mrs. Ivy is survived by her son, Tennessee State Trooper, John Ivy, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Chapel Hill, TN, her sister Lila Rush of Henderson, TN and her two granddaughters, Tiffany Ivy and Nicole Ivy.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Preston Donaldson, Tim Holloway, David Kelley, Jim Matlock, Barrett Rich and Mack Wade.
