Helen Doris Bishop Woodruff, age 85, resident of Collierville, Tennessee and wife of the late Alton "Waymon" Woodruff, departed this life Wednesday evening, December 6, 2023 at Shelby Gardens Place in Cordova, Tennessee.
Helen was born May 4, 1938 in Independence County, Arkansas, the daughter of the late James Houston Bishop and Margie Alice Nash Bishop. She graduated from Desha High School in Desha, Arkansas and was married in 1959 to Alton "Waymon" Woodruff who preceded her in death. She was employed in accounts receivable and accounts payable administration with Schering-Plough before her retirement in 1998. Mrs. Woodruff had been a resident of Fayette County for 20 years and was a member of Kirk Baptist Church near Collierville. In addition to her family, she loved her cats, her chickens and being outside.
Mrs. Woodruff is survived by two daughters, Tara “Tee” Meeks (Jheryl) of Collierville, TN and Yvette White (Russ) of Collierville; TN; two grandchildren, Josh and Sarah; three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Teagan and J Michael; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Boswell, Dollie Neuman, Verna Kyzer and Naomi Hood and her brother, Carl Bishop.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Woodruff were held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 with Bro. Mitch Tibbits of Schoolfield Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, officiating. A Celebration of Life luncheon followed at Christ Presbyterian Church near Somerville, Tennessee.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Joshua Meeks, Jheryl Meeks and Russ White.
