HENRY WATKINS WILLIAMSON, SR., a resident of Memphis, native of Mason, retired Director of the Bank of Mason and husband of Jean Williamson went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 25, 2010, after a short illness. He was 80 years of age.
Funeral Services for Mr. Williamson were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27th in the church chapel of the Second Presbyterian Church, 4055 Poplar Avenue in Memphis with Rev. Andrew P. Wells, Associate Minister, officiating. Interment followed at 3 p.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery, his family's ancestral burial grounds in Fayette County near Mason.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were: Warren A. Hines, Charles Pounds, George T. B. Williamson, Henry W. Williamson, III, John T. Williamson, Matthew A. Williamson, Norris B. Williamson and Wilkins M. Williamson.
Charles A. Anthony, Francis B. Williamson and Julian M. Williamson served as honorary casket bearers.
Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Williamson is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Jean Anthony Williamson; his daughter, Lucy Hines (Ashley) of Greenville, MS; two sons, Henry W. Williamson, Jr. (Maria) of Greensboro, NC, and John A. Williamson (Suzanne) of Memphis; nine grandchildren: Jacqueline, Henry III, Matthew and Rachel Williamson; Warren and Margaret Hines and Sophie, John T. and Laurel Williamson and one great-grandson, Henry IV.
Henry was born January 15, 1930 to the late Sue Brodnax and Wilkins Maclin Williamson of Mason, TN, the youngest of six children.
A sixth generation West Tennessean, he was graduated from the Webb School, Bell Buckle, TN and Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Mr. Williamson lived in Memphis his entire adult life and was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon for many years. He was a member of the Charles Gillespie Sunday School Class and the Chapel Class.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Stanton and a Director of the Bank of Mason, as were his father and brothers.
Henry was a great supporter of Scouting and served as committee chairman of Boy Scout Troop 55 at Second Presbyterian. He inspired both of his sons and a grandson to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and the God and County award. His daughter attained the highest rank in Girl Scouts.
An expert in building materials, he served the Mid-South area for over 40 years as a manufacturers' representative. His reputation was grounded on integrity and customer service. As a role model, he devoted himself to his family and delighted in being surrounded by them.
He enjoyed many activities with his wife, his extended family and many friends. He was a gracious host and a great conversationalist with the rare ability to chat on any subject. He touched the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
