HERBERT MCCALL WILSON, SR., a resident of the Rossville Community, longtime Employee of the Conwood Corporation in Memphis before his retirement and United States Veteran died at 1:50 P.M. Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Methodist Hospital Fayette in Somerville where he had been a patient for one day. He was 77 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilson were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, January 7th at Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Rev. James Weir, Pastor of the Pleasants Christian Church at Rossville, officiating. A prayer was given by Richard Fitzpatrick of the Caris Healthcare Systems. Interment with Military Recognition followed in the Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Wilson was born in Shelby County on September 1, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents John Columbus Wilson and Carrie Lee Joyner Wilson. He was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and served in the United States Army during the Korean War Period. Mr. Wilson was the husband of the late Doris Burton Wilson who preceded him in death July 19, 1974.

Mr. Wilson was employed as a Press Operator for the Conwood Corporation in Memphis, for over 40 years before his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of the Memphis area before moving to Fayette County three years ago. He was a member of the Pleasants Christian Church at Rossville and will be remembered for his love of out of door activities that included hunting, nature and animals.

Survivors of Mr. Wilson include his longtime companion, Dot Moore of Rossville; his daughter, Sherri Lynn Brooks (Brady) of Oakland; his son, H. McCall Wilson, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Rossville; his sister, Chelsie Huston of Atoka; two brothers, Bert Ray Wilson, Sr. of Somerville and Clyde V. Wilson of Potts Camp, MS and five grandchildren: Brittany, Brady, Weber, Madeleine and Bennett.
