HILDA JANE ELVINGTON DUKE

December 13, 1949 — September 4, 2008

HILDA JANE ELVINGTON DUKE, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community in Fayette County and a person known for her love and devotion to her family, died at 12:38 P.M. Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for six days. She was 58 years of age and died following an extended illness.

A Celebration Of Life Service for Mrs. Duke was conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Highway 64 at Oakland. Special Remarks were provided by Mrs. Duke's son, Brian Duke and Mrs. Duke's sister, Gail Benson. Interment will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

A native of Lexington, TN, Mrs. Duke was born December 13, 1949, and was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Elvington and Ruth White Elvington. She was educated in the Henderson County, TN Public School System. She was a homemaker throughout her life and had been a resident of the Hickory Withe Community for the past six years.

Mrs. Duke, known by many as "Mother Duke" will be remembered as a devoted Christian lady who enjoyed reading God's Word. She served as a best friend to her family members and her life was exemplified by her kindness and concern for others. She served as an inspiration to many with her optimistic outlook despite her lengthy illness.

Her greatest joy was giving to others and special times with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was married December 10, 1965 to James Fred Duke, who survives.

Mrs. Duke is survived by two daughters, Lisa Tice (Buddy) of Moscow and Angel Parrish (Tony) of Hickory Withe; two sons, Timothy Elvington of Lexington, TN and Brian Duke (Melissa) of Horn Lake, MS; three sisters: Gail Benson of Reagan, TN; Polly Elvington of Lexington, TN and Peggy Odle of Slidell, LA; three brothers: Tony Elvington of Murfreesboro, TN; Bill Elvington of Lexington, TN and Max Elvington of Nashville; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
