HOMAZELLE TEAGUE ASHFORD, resident of the Moscow Community and wife of James M. "Skinner" Ashford, passed away January 19, 2008, at the Methodist Hospital of Germantown. She was 82 years of age and passed away following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ashford were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 22nd at the Piperton United Methodist Church with Rev. Joey Reed, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery near Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Ashford was born October 29, 1925, in Moscow, the daughter of the late Carson Eugene Teague and the late Eula Pruitt Teague, early residents of the Moscow community. She was educated in the Fayette County public school system and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville where she was a member of the Varsity Basketball Team.
Mrs. Ashford was married January 15, 1945, to James M. "Skinner" Ashford, who survives and she had been a former resident of Memphis for a number of years. Mrs. Ashford was employed as a Secretary at the Kennedy Veteran's Hospital during World War II and had served as a past president of The Kennedy Book Club and The Agenda Club in Whitehaven. In earlier years, she was a member of the Whitehaven Country Club, an avid bridge player and had traveled abroad extensively. Mrs. Ashford was a former member of the Whitehaven United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Ashford was currently a member of the Piperton United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Ashford is survived by her husband of 63 years, James M. "Skinner" Ashford, her daughter, Pamula Jane Ashford, both of Moscow; her grandson, Fred T. Baddour, Jr., her granddaughter, Brooke Baddour, a cousin, Dr. Charles Munn and her sister-in-law, Delores Ann Jewell, all of Memphis.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Fred T. Baddour, Jr., Brooke Baddour, Dr. Charles Munn, Richard Jewell, Pat Downey and Danny Gossett. Malcolm McSpadden served as an honorary casketbearer.
The family request that memorials be directed to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
