Gene Rogers
1960—2011
Horace Eugene “Gene” Rogers, resident of the Hickory Withe Community and longtime Automobile Mechanic in the Fayette County area before his illness died at the Gallaway Healthcare Center where he had been a resident for eight days. He was 51 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Rogers were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, May 2

at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Carl Doyle of the Oakland First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Rogers was born April 4, 1960 in Somerville, the son of Lowell Fay Rogers and the late Dolores Anita Mitchell Rogers. He was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School in Somerville. Mr. Rogers was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area. He was employed as an automobile mechanic much of his life and will be remembered as a person who enjoyed humor and storytelling. Times with his grandchildren and fishing, hunting and drag racing were favorite activities.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his father and step-mother: Lowell Fay Rogers and Bonnie Jean Rogers of Como, MS; a daughter: Amanda Rogers of Hickory Withe; a son: Robert Rogers of Hickory Withe; a step-daughter: Dana Stevens of Bartlett; a step-son: Dwyane Cox of the Longtown Community; two sisters: Susan Camille Rogers of Oakland, Anita Hughes of Oakland; two brothers: Eddie Rogers of Como, MS, Robby Rogers of Oakland and seven grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
