Howard Joseph Moore

July 19, 1926 — October 27, 2015

Howard Joseph Moore, age 89, resident of Bartlett, former President of Moscow Savings Bank and husband of Sara Vivien Yager Moore, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, October 27, 2015 at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Moore were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Lynn Eagan of Collierville officiating. Special music was provided by Janet Moore Forbes, soloist. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Moore was born July 19, 1926 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He received his education in the Attala County, Mississippi Public School System and served his country in the United States Navy Stateside during the Korean Conflict and World War II. He attended Mississippi State University and the Louisiana State University School of Banking. He was a former resident of the Moscow Community from 1966 to 1978. Mr. Moore was employed as a banker for many years and was the former President for the Moscow Savings Bank currently known as The Bank of Fayette County and former President of Citibank in Lineville, Alabama. Following his banking career, he became an entrepreneur until his retirement .

Mr. Moore was married October 7, 1978 to the former Sara Vivien Yager. He moved to the Bartlett area and was a member of the Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova. Mr. Moore enjoyed fishing, hunting, building bird houses, traveling, watching John Wayne movies and eating ice cream.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Sara Yager Moore of Bartlett; his daughter, Cindy Moore Mills (Andy) of Collierville; two sons, Howard J. Moore, Jr. of Bartlett, Ronnie Moore of Bartlett; his twin brother, Hayward Moore of Richmond, VA; and three grandchildren, Cortney Mills, Cody Mills and Howard J. “Trey” Moore, III.

He was reunited with his parents, Reuben Edgar Moore and Pearl Dickerson Moore and his brother, Herbert Moore.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Cody Mills, Andy Mills, Trey Moore, Bob Forbes, Bob Turner and Jim Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the Yoke Fellow Bible Class at Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House, 1520 W. Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN 38017 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 713 S. Mendenhall Road, Memphis, TN 38119.
