H. RAY JACKSON

August 27, 1955 — August 4, 2009

HARVIE RAY JACKSON, JR., a resident of the Oakland Community, Memphis Light Gas & Water Department Employee and husband of Tina Jackson died at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at his home on Feathers Chapel Drive. He was 53 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Funeral services for Mr. Jackson were conducted at 3 P.M. Friday, August 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Carl Meyer, Pastor of the Oakland First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Jackson was born August 27, 1955 in Tippah County, Mississippi, the son of Anne Goodman Jackson and the late Harvie Ray Jackson, Sr.

He moved to Memphis with his family at an early age and was a high school graduate receiving his education in the Shelby County Public School System.

He was a resident of Memphis for a number of years before moving to Fayette County ten years ago.

Mr. Jackson was employed as a Mechanic for the Memphis Light Gas & Water Department at the time of his death.

He was of the Baptist faith and was married June 19, 1993 to the former Tina Norman of Memphis who survives. Mrs. Jackson is employed by Amedisys Home Health Care at Oakland.

An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Mr. Jackson was a member of the Tri-County Cruisers who participated in the funeral procession.

He will be remembered for his love of mechanics which he enjoyed during his employment as well as a hobby.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Jackson is survived by his son, Joel Jackson of Hopkins, MN; his step-son, Chris Hackett of Oakland; his mother, Anne Jackson of Oakland and brother, Eddie Jackson of Memphis.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Bill Carter, Dennis Downs, James Fowinkle, Chris Hackett, Randy Neely and Mike Vance.

Honorary casket bearers were "Bubba" Cotton, Eric Goedecke, Tom Strong and members of the Tri-County Cruisers Motorcycle Club.
