Hubert Hershel Rogers, resident of Memphis, retired after 57 years in the plumbing industry and husband of Evelyn C. Rogers died Monday afternoon, December 31, 2012 of cancer at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis. He was 80 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services for Mr. Rogers will be at 12 noon Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Balmoral Baptist Church. Visitation for Mr. Rogers will be from 10:30 until 12 noon Thursday at the church. Graveside Services for Mr. Rogers will be at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Whiteville.
Mr. Rogers was born October 17, 1932 in the Mt. Moriah Community of Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny B., Rogers and Alice Peterson Rogers. He attended the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Period.
He was employed for 20 years in plumbing sales at Gordon Hollingsworth Wholesale Plumbing in Memphis. He was then employed for 20 years by the Memphis Winnelson Wholesale Plumbing in Memphis. Because of his love for the plumbing business and helping others, Mr. Rogers did plumbing repairs as a Christian ministry for friends for 17 years before his retirement.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Mr. Rogers is survived by two daughters, Cynthia VanTrieste (Martin) of Thousand Oaks, CA, Karen Rogers of Memphis; his son, David Rogers (Janet) of Memphis; and four granddaughters, Jennifer VanTrieste, Susan VanTrieste, Mary VanTrieste and Christi Howard.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Bob Dowdy, Aubrey Hilliard, Dorsie Hilliard, L.Z. Stafford, Charles Dowdy, James Taylor, Mike Shepard and Harris Clark.
