Hudson "Hud" Brannock Holmquist

November 7, 1920 — January 13, 2013

Hudson Brannock “Hud” Holmquist, resident of Memphis, retired employee for Buckeye/Procter & Gamble and great uncle of Donna McFarland of Oakland died Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2013 at the Kirby Pines Manor in Memphis. He was 92 years of age and died following an illness of five months.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Holmquist were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, January 18th at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Deb Christianson of the church officiating. Interment followed in the Masonic Cemetery in Amory, Mississippi. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Holmquist was born November 7, 1920 and in earlier years lived in Amory, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton Robert Holmquist and Leila Hortense Glasscock Holmquist. He was married January 7, 1946 to Faydette Nash, who preceded him in death November 13, 2010. Mr. and Mrs. Holmquist moved to Memphis shortly after their marriage and he was employed by Buckeye/Procter & Gamble for almost 40 years. Mr. Homquist was very proud of his service as a Navy Yeoman in World War II on the U.S.S. Boulder Victory (AK-227) carrying ammunition in the Pacific War Zone.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Memphis for almost 60 years, where he sang in the choir and was part of the men’s church quartet. He was active in the Trinity Dinner Theaters for many years. Mr. Holmquist will be remembered by all who knew him for his devotion and loving care for his wife during her 16 years of Alzheimer’s. He and Faye were very appreciative of the faithfulness of Faye’s sister, Dot Nash, in assisting with their care through these years. He loved traveling, boating, skiing and entertaining.

Mr. Holmquist is survived by two nephews, Anton B. Holmquist, Jr., John David Dallas; great nephew, John David Dallas, Jr. (April), great nieces, Gail Crawford (Harry), Donna McFarland (Ron); two sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Dot) Nash, Mavourleen Trembelas; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Scott McFarland, Andy McFarland, David Dallas, David Dallas, Jr. and Glen Robert Kimble.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Trinity United Methodist Church Choir, 1738 Galloway, Memphis, TN 38112.
