Hugholene Bernice Doyle Peak, longtime resident of the Oakland Community and wife of the late Joe Lee Peak departed this life Friday afternoon, February 22, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where she had been a patient for three days. She was 89 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Peak were conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, February 25th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Minister Ray Peters of the Macon Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Peak was born October 20, 1923 in Bolivar, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Addison Doyle and Cora Bell Turner Doyle. She received her education in the Hardeman County Public School System and was married December 6, 1946 to Fayette County farmer, Joe Lee Peak. Mr. Peak preceded her in death on October 19, 1993 after 47 years of marriage.
Mrs. Peak was a homemaker throughout her life and possessed a motherly love for her family. She was a resident of Hardeman County in earlier years and had been a resident of Fayette County since 1946. She was of the Baptist faith and received much pleasure in gardening and flowers. Because of her faith, Mrs. Peak approached life with hope and joy and was a shining example for those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Peak is survived by her daughter, Sandra Thompson (Richard) of Oakland; her son, Donnie Joe Peak (Robin) of Oakland; her sister, Mary Gooch of Memphis; four grandchildren, Kylie Peak, Chris Peak (Katherine), Chrystal Howard (Zane), Bonnie Thompson; and three great grandchildren, JaKob Howard, Raegan Howard and Landon Howard. She was preceded in death by her five Hardeman County brothers, Eldon Doyle, Marlon Doyle, Tate Doyle, Jimmy Doyle and Wood Doyle.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Chris Peak, Richard Peak, Brian Coleman, David Taylor, Dorris Doyle and Joe Downen.
Honorary casketbearers were Larry Gooch, Danny Ray Hill and Zane Howard.
