Inez Holmes Davis, resident of Germantown, former resident of the Somerville Community, retired business manager of the West Tennessee Realty Insurance Company and wife of Julius Perry Davis departed this life Thursday evening, August 29, 2013 at the Germantown Plantation Senior Living Community in Germantown where she resided since July of 2009. She was 86 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services for Mrs. Davis were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. A private entombment was in the Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Tennessee.
Mrs. Davis was born December 17, 1926 in Jackson, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Lowe Holmes and Addie Belle Hamilton Holmes. She moved with her parents at an early age to Fayette County and she received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and continued her education at Lambuth College in Jackson, where she majored in Biology.
Mrs. Davis was married June 15, 1946 to Julius Perry Davis, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Davis formerly lived in the Somerville Community, Mission, Texas, Nampa, Idaho and Fort Myers, Florida before moving to Germantown in 2009 to be near their family. She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed creating stained glass art.
Mrs. Davis was employed as a business manager for the West Tennessee Realty Insurance Company for over 30 years before her retirement. She enjoyed traveling and she and her husband traveled throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Europe and Canada. She volunteered in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming and also enjoyed Pickwick Dam and Hawaii.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Sheila Davis Butler of Collierville; her brother, James H. Holmes of Germantown; her son-in-law, Bob Godsea of Cape Coral, FL; four grandchildren, Ashley Foster (Matt), Kyle Butler, Stephanie Godsea (Nelson Gonzalez), Kevin Godsea (Anna); and two great grandchildren, Laura Godsea and Will Godsea.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Anne Davis Godsea and her brother, Chester Leon Holmes.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville First United Methodist Church, 202 S. East Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
