IOLA TALLEY KENNON

September 20, 1914 — August 2, 2009

IOLA TALLEY KENNON, a resident of Somerville and retired Employee of Goldsmith's Department Store in Memphis died at 3:10 A.M., Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the National Heathcare Center in Somerville where she had resided for ten years. She was 94 years of age and died following a two-year illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kennon were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, August 3rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery at Macon, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Kennon was born September 20, 1914 in the Saulsbury Community of Hardeman County. She was educated in the Hardeman County Public School System and was a resident of Memphis in past years where she was employed as a Salesperson in the Sewing and Fabric Department of the Goldsmith's Department Store.

Mrs. Kennon was of the Baptist faith and was a former resident of the Macon Community in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Jess Moody of Fayette County, who died in 1970 and was later married to Sanford Kennon of Fayette County, who died in 1986.

She was a lifelong resident of Hardeman, Shelby and Fayette Counties and will be remembered as a person who enjoyed special times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Crossword puzzles, word games and visiting with her friends at National Healthcare Center were favorite pastimes during the later years of Mrs. Kennon's life.

Survivors of Mrs. Kennon include her sister, Lillian Martis of Jackson, MS; two brothers, James Talley of Portland, TN and Maurice Talley of Jackson, MS and a number of grand-, great-grand- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three children: infant daughter, Billie Fay Moody, Carl Moody and Robert "Cotton" Moody.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Mrs. Kennon.
